Most asked questions about ODD Ball and the App.
The ball acts as a smart, bluetooth controller. It connects to the companion App which then reproduces the sound.
We did think about having a speaker in the ball at the beginning, it would have been super cool.
However, since the sound quality could not have been really good and durability of it would have been a challenge, we decided to create a companion App.
We believe this is much better, since you can stream the sound to any speaker or headphone, so you can have super good quality sound and loud volume if you want, but also because it makes it possible to have many more different experiences playable with the Ball.
Absolutely, the App is free for Android and iOS and it also comes with a large library of free sounds.
The ball is super durable, is made of a thick silicone outer and is tested to bounce 100’000 times on a hard floor.
Back in the days we actually created a very DIY machine that would rotate a metal rod to hold the ball and smash it against a pile of bricks.
It worked and got us to the resilience we wanted, but definitely one of those cases of DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME.
The App is available on both Android and iOS, with a minimum requirement of Android 8 and iOS 12.
Absolutely. The ODD Ball is water resistance and, importantly, made of silicone, which is a super safe material.
Silicone is free from harmful chemicals like BPA, phthalates, and PVC, making it a popular choice for baby bottles, pacifiers, and teething toys.
It is also hypoallergenic, resistant to bacteria growth, and can withstand high temperatures, ensuring it remains stable and safe under various conditions.
The ODD Ball App is free and already comes with a large library of sound that is also free and ready to use.
In the App we do have additional sound packs you can purchase, but they are very affordable (between $2-$4).
We wish we could just have an unlimited library of free sounds, but we want to support the artists that help us create these packs, in fact a considerable portion of the profits goes to them.
Yes, the ball is a bluetooth MIDI device and it interfaces with any software that supports MIDI, which is a pretty well known and widespread communication protocol for controllers.
